Amkelwa
Born and raised in South Africa, in the former homeland known as Transkei, Amkelwa Mbekeni grew up in the volatile political climate of the 80’s. Over a decade ago, she first flirted with doing radio in her university years at a campus radio station, while also being active in student politics.

She particularly fell in love with talk radio; a love which has taken her to the studios of Cape Town talk station (as well as one of the oldest community stations in South Africa). For a number of years she hosted a talk show focusing on a myriad of topics covering Arts and Culture, Human Rights and Gender Matters, as well as Labour Issues.

Her deep interest in retracing and reclaiming her cultural roots lead her to became one of the cofounders of a film production company, whose  primary focus is to find and tell African stories by African people.

Mik
Mikko Kapanen (once called a Hip-Hop citizen of the world) though world traveled, grew up in a quiet corner of Europe where he learned both politics and the English language from Public Enemy records. Besides Hip-Hop, Mikko became interested in radio at a relatively young age. After a quick stint in  pop radio he worked to create a concept for an educational entertainment radio program in Gaborone, Botswana.

In Birmingham, UK he officially became a student of the medium in an academic sense, while also working for a local station. For years Mikko hosted and produced a music specialist show focusing on Hip-Hop as a global movement on one of the oldest community stations in South Africa.

Besides music programs, he has produced news and current affairs content for public broadcasters both in South Africa and in Finland. Mikko also taught radio students in a university media department in Cape Town, South Africa.
