July 22nd – LL Cool J releases his classic sophomore album “Bigger And Deffer” on Def Jam Records, on this day in 1987.

“Bigger And Deffer” would feature the legendary hits “I’m Bad”, “Go Cut Creator Go” and the “quiet storm” crossover smash “I Need Love”, rap’s first hit love song.

“Bigger And Deffer” would also feature classic album cuts like “Kanday”, “Get Down”, “The Do Wop” and “Bristol Hotel.”

The album’s cover featured LL standing atop a luxury car in front of Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, New York, where LL attended as a teen.

The word “BAD” scrawled at the bottom of the album’s cover would cause many to think that it was the name of the album.

The album’s back cover would feature LL Cool J donning boxing gloves hitting a heavy bag flanked by his DJ, Cut Creator, and his hype-man E Love, whose silhouette Chuck D would use in designing Public Enemy’s logo.

“Bigger And Deffer” was produced by DJ Pooh and The L.A. Posse.
