June 6th – LaFace Records releases the soundtrack to the Paramount Pictures Film “Shaft 2000”, on this day in 2000.

The film, a sequel to the classic 1971 MGM film starring Richard Roundtree, was directed by John Singleton and starred Samuel L. Jackson as the nephew to the original John Shaft.

Roundtree appears in the film as well.

Besides featuring r’n’b artists on the soundtrack like R. Kelly, Alicia Keys, Angie Stone and the late, great Issac Hayes, who remakes his 1971 theme song which won a Grammy Award, it also features hip-hop artists like Mystikal, Too $hort, Beanie Sigel, T.I., and UGK.
