This Day In Hip Hop and Rap History

March 29th – Philly’s DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince release their triple platinum selling double sophomore album “He's The DJ, I’m The Rapper” on Jive Records on this day in 1988.

The album’s G-Rated language and themes make it one of the first rap albums to cross over to younger audiences and young children and bring the playful and comedic side of hip-hop to the mainstream. It contained the smash hit “Parents Just Don't Understand”, which won the first Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance.
