This Day In Hip Hop and Rap History

May 6th - Kool Keith, of The Ultramagnetic MC’s, releases his first solo album “Dr. Octagonecologyst” on Bulk Records on this day in 1996.

The set would be produced by Dan “The Automator” of the future Handsome Boy Modeling School.

Kut Masta Kurt and DJ Qbert would contribute to the production of the album as well.

“Dr. Octagonecologyst” would spawn the underground classic singles, “Earth People”, released the previous year, and “Blue Flowers”.

The album’s experimental and eclectic sound coupled with Keith’s unique and alternative lyrical approach and subject matter made it a critical and fan favorite, especially on college radio.
