September 30th – T-Pain was born Faheem Rasheed Najm in Tallahassee, Florida on this day in 1985.

T-Pain’s stage name is short for “Tallahassee Pain”, meant to reflect the hardships he endured growing up in Florida’s capital.

In 2004, T-Pain joined the group Nappy Headz who then recorded a cover version of Akon’s “Locked Up”.

Upon hearing the record, Akon signed T-Pain to a solo deal with his own Konvict Muzik Records.

T-Pain released his debut solo album “Rappa Ternt Sanga” in 2005.

The album’s title reflected T-Pain’s decision to now sing instead of rapping and heavily utilizing the Auto-Tune program.

The album spawned two hits “I’m Sprung” and “I’m ‘N’ Luv (Wit A Stripper)”, featuring Mike Jones.

In 2007, T-Pain released his platinum-selling sophomore album “Epiphany”.

“Epiphany” contained the smash hits “Buy You A Drank” and “Bartender”, featuring Akon).

During this time T-Pain became a hot commodity in music and his services as a collaborator were high in demand.

T-Pain would guest on hit records by Flo Rida, Fabolous, Plies, R. Kelly and DJ Khaled to name a mere few.

His collaboration with Flo Rida “Low” would go 6 times platinum.

T-Pain would also produce and appear on Chris Brown’s huge 2007 hit “Kiss, Kiss”.

In 2008, T-Pain would win a Grammy Award for his collaboration with Kanye West on the latter’s hit record “Good Life”.

That same year, T-Pain released his third album, “Thr33 Ringz”, on his own Nappy Boy Records.

The Grammy-nominated, gold-selling album contained the hits, “Can’t Believe It”, featuring Lil’ Wayne, “Chopped ‘N’ Skrewed”, featuring Ludacris and “Freeze”, featuring Chris Brown.

In 2009, T-Pain teamed up with Lil’ Wayne and they formed the duo T-Wayne and released a Self-Titled mixtape that charted on Billboard’s 200 Albums Chart.

In 2011, T-Pain released his fourth album, “Revolver”, which contained the smash hit “5 O’Clock”.

“Revolver” was released on Akon’s Konvict label as well as T-Pain’s Nappy Boy imprint and RCA after the folding of Jive Records.

T-Pain is reportedly set to release a new album “Stoicville: The Phoenix” before the end of 2014.

In 2010, T-Pain produced an animated TV special called “Freaknik: The Musical” which he also voiced along with Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Wayne, Cee-Lo Green and a host of others.

That same year, T-Pain also appeared in the Cube Vision comedy film “The Lottery Ticket” starring Bow Wow.

T-Pain is also set to appear in next year’s “Fast & Furious 7”, starring Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker.

Over the years, T-Pain has collaborated with the likes of Ciara, Lil’ Kim, B.o.B., Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent, Bun B, Nelly, Gucci Mane and Snoop Dogg, just to name a mere few.
