April 30th – G-Unit, member Lloyd Banks was born Christopher Charles Lloyd in New Carrollton, Maryland, on this day in 1982.
Banks, a childhood friend of 50 Cent and Tony Yayo, first made his name on the street via the mix-tape route.
When 50 Cent hit it big with his 2003 sophomore album “Get Rich Or Die Tryin”, a Shady/Aftermath Records collaboration, he would feature Banks on the set as well as on the remix for the smash hit “P.I.M.P.”
Soon after, 50 Cent established his own label which he named G-Unit Records and formed a group with the same name featuring Banks, Yayo and Nashville, Tennessee’s Young Buck, who had previously been on the Cash Money Records roster.
G-Unit would release two albums; 2003’s “Beg For Mercy” which featured the hits “Stunt 101”, “Poppin’ Them Thangs”, “My Buddy”, “Wanna Get To Know You” and “Smile” as well as 2008’s “T.O.S.: Terminate On Site” which contained “I Like The Way She Do It” and “Rider Pt. 2.”
Banks released his debut solo album “The Hunger For More” in 2004 which produced the chart topping singles; “I’m So Fly”, “On Fire” and “Karma.”
Banks followed that up with 2006’s “Rotten Apple”, which featured guest appearances by 50 Cent, Rakim, Mobb Deep, Scarface and Musiq Soulchild amongst others.
Banks’ last album was 2010’s “H.F.M.: The Hunger For More 2.”
Lloyd Banks has also appeared in the films “Morning Glory” released in 2010 and 50 Cent’s crime drama “Before I Self Destruct” released in 2009.
