This Day In Hip Hop and Rap History

November 28th – Chamillionaire was born Hakeem Seriki in Washington, D.C. on this day in 1979.

Chamillionaire moved to Houston, Texas as a young child.

Later on, he and his childhood friend Paul Wall formed the group The Color Changin’ Click” in the late 1990’s.

When the two met Swishahouse Records head Michael “5000” Watts at an event, it led to the duo collaborating on Watts’ radio show, mixtapes and eventually getting signed to his label.

The duo released the album “Get Ya Mind Correct” on Paid In Full Entertainment, which would go on to sell over 150,000 copies.

An impressive feat despite having no backing from a major label.

A “Chopped ‘n’ Screwed” version was produced by Watts and released on Swishahouse.

The Color Changin’ Click released one more album in 2005 called “Controversy Sells” before going their separate ways as a group that same year.

Chamillionaire released his debut solo set the same year called “The Sound Of Revenge” on Universal Records, who distributed his own indie imprint, Chamilitary Records.

The platinum-selling set contained the hit singles “Grown And Sexy”, “Turn It Up”, featuring Lil’ Flip and the Grammy winning “Ridin’”, featuring Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

“Weird Al” Yankovic parodied the song in 2006, re-naming it “White & Nerdy” from his album released the same year called “Straight Outta Lynwood”.

Chamillionaire released his sophomore album “Ultimate Victory” in 2007, which featured the single “Hip-Hop Police”, featuring Slick Rick, as well as no profanity on the entire set.

In 2012, he released the EP “Ammunition”, followed by two more extended plays released in 2013, “Elevate” and “Reignfall”.

Chamillionaire is reportedly getting ready to release a new album called “Poison”.

Chamillionaire has also been somewhat of an entrepreneur.

Besides his Chamilitary imprint, he’s also been involved in Fly Rydes, a company that customizes automobiles.

He also launched Masterpiece Mind Frame, a firm that handles the careers of models as well as a Tour Bus service.

Chamillionaire is also known for his “Mix-Tape Messiah” series of which he’s released several volumes.

Over the years, Chamillionaire has also collaborated with the likes of Paster Troy, Killer Mike, Bun B, Ciara, Trick Daddy, Franky J and Three Six Mafia just to name a few.

Chamillionaire has also appeared on television’s “The Game”, “Punk’d” and “Pimp My Ride”.
