Channel Zero -- The Saga Begins

By WJMSTV

Easy Star...you've waited long enough. Hip Hop & Cyberspace. Some say it's a match made in Heaven. Sorta like back in the day, when poetic words & phrases were matched up with Break Beats and mufukas equipped with a pair of lips, a tongue and saliva, who could beat box their asses off. Thus providing an existing culture with Classic Material, which in turn transformed that culture into some new shit. A new way of Being. A new form of expression. Word Life. This Rapstation shit is Bananas.

Me? I Produce. I am a Producer. I am the eyes, ears, and keyboard of Channel Zero. Through my eyes, I will enable YOU to SEE beyond the Velvet Rope. To HEAR what goes on behind the door marked ALL ACCESS PASS ONLY! DO NOT ENTER. I go there. I live there. And through Channel Zero…so will YOU! Well then...I guess I'll start with my recent visit with Bad Boy's CEO and Franchise Playa, Sean "Puffy" Combs. However, on this particular day, Puffy is in full 'Artist' mode. He is Puff Daddy. PD is out in LA at the Universal City Studios getting ready to shoot scenes for his new video featuring P.E. 2000. This is the first dingle off Puff's sophomore album, "Forever." I know, I know...there's like three versions to that shit! And all three are Bananas. But this one is for P.E. 2000, the English version. It's a P.E. remake. (Quote: Isn't it Ironic? - Alanis Morrisette) Don't go there. The track is endorsed by the Chuckster and the video features appearances by Flavor Flav, (who also makes an appearance in the Spanish Fly Version video) Hurricane G. (who mimics Flavor on the record), and DJ Scratch. (of EPMD fame). Peep the timeline.

Friday:

It's 7am and the entire set is buzzing. Hurricane & Scratch stumble onto the set. The video is being directed by Martin Weisz (Director of Dru Hill's "You are Everything") and the special effects are suppose to be reminiscent of the movie, The Matrix. The whole concept was conceived by Puff and his Bad Boy video production team led by Matt X. Today's shots include Puffy's performance in the Hallway with flames, Hurricane G's performance in front of a huge wall of lights, and Puff performing in a sliding chair donning a shimmering white fur. At last, Puff emerges from his trailer with Shyne, Bad Boy's newest phenomenon, in tow. Visualistics.

Saturday:

Today we are slated to resume Production in Downtown LA. We have shut down the city streets to shoot the opening scene of the video where Puff is in the white Lamborghini with Flavor Flav riding shotgun. ("Sitting in the passenger side of his best friend's ride...") Flavor arrives in his trademark "Flavorful" manner. John Sally is in the house. A tremendous amount of love is being shown as celebs roll through to give Puff props. Nevertheless, the crew is still stressed. It seems we have drifted far behind schedule during yesterday's shoot. After we finish at the downtown location, we have to trek back to Universal City Studios to shoot the party scene where Puff will lose his his shirt as he sways through model-like types steadily shimmering (there's that word again/ Quote: "Shimmy Shimmy Cocoa Pop..." - Shock G) But today promises to be eventful to say the least. Why wouldn't it be? Flavor Flav has entered the building. Visualistics.

Sunday:

We finished the video last night, but to no avail, we can't stop. Puffy won't stop (Uh huh...that's right). There's an understanding when either working for Bad Boy or with them that "Sleeping is Forbidden". They are not lying. We didn't finish shooting the final scenes last night until about 2 or 3am, I didn't hit the hotel until about 3:30 or 4. Crew call was set for 6am. That meant about an hour and a half of sleep (at the most). Ain't that some shit! The agenda. The entire crew will travel for a few hours from Los Angeles to the Mojave Desert for a photo shoot. I show up with the convoy of tour buses and trailers, I say Lisa Clark, VP of talent Relations, who insisted that I ride the trailer. (Ya don't gottta tell me twice). So we're off. Lisa Clark is also the Creative Director of this photo shoot, which has been designed to portray a new 'sexy' image for PD. "Last year, he was hard. This year, we want him to be 'sexy.' A Sex Symbol," says Ms. Clark. The images from this shoot will be used for album artwork and promotional materials. Why the desert? "I just have this fascination with the desert...I feel drawn to it," mumbles Mr. Combs as he stares out into the vast open space through blue tinted shades. It is here Mr. Combs will decide that he not only wants to do the photo shoot, he wants to also shoot some scenes from the Rock Remix of P.E. 2000. Again, we won't stop. Puff can't stop. Visualistics.

Be sure to tune into Channel Zero next week. See me. I'll show you the world (and then some…)
